A wedding asks a lot of one garment — it must warm a bride without hiding her, dress a mother without upstaging anyone, and carry a guest from ceremony to last dance. Kashmiri weavers have been making exactly that piece for two centuries.

For the bride
Ivory, champagne or the palest blush, woven fine enough to fold into one hand. A bridal pashmina is chosen against the gown fabric — matte handloom beside crepe, a whisper of sheen beside silk — so it disappears into the dress rather than sitting on top of it.
For the mother of the bride
This is where the embroidered pieces earn their months of needlework — Sozni vines, Zari gold, Kani borders. Worn over something plain, a worked shawl is the outfit, and it is the piece most often kept and passed down afterwards.
For guests
An English wedding runs from church cold to marquee midnight. A wool-silk or pashmina wrap in a rich tone earns its place in every photograph and then spends the next decade as the most-reached-for thing in the wardrobe.

What does a bride wear over a wedding dress?
An ivory or champagne pashmina, draped open across the shoulders. Pashmina is warm without weight, so it covers an evening chill without creasing silk or hiding the gown — and it photographs as part of the outfit rather than a coat over it.
What should the mother of the bride choose?
A deeper tone with handwork — Sozni embroidery or a Kani weave reads as jewellery rather than knitwear. Choose a colour one shade richer than the outfit beneath it, so the shawl frames rather than matches.
Can I see the shawls before the wedding?
Yes — our Birmingham shop at 1532 Pershore Road, Stirchley (B30 2NW) keeps this edit to hand, so you can judge the weight and drape against the outfit in person. Open Monday to Saturday 10.30am–6.30pm and Sunday 12–6pm.
How quickly can a shawl arrive?
UK delivery takes 3–5 business days and is complimentary on orders over £60. Worldwide delivery takes 7–21 business days and is complimentary over £200 — for a fixed date, order ahead or collect from the Birmingham shop.
What if it does not suit the outfit?
Unworn pieces can be returned or exchanged within 14 days, so the shawl can be tried against the dress at home well before the day.
